Fish lids are made of pre-washed soft cotton and are pretty resilient little noggin' toppers. They’re made for beach days, boat trips, salty holidays and long afternoons in the sun - but like anything that spends time by the sea, they’ll last longer with a little love. Here’s how to properly care for your Fish Lid and keep it looking fresh for years to come.
Rinse after ocean outings
If your Fish Lid has spent some time in and around salt water, give it a quick rinse with fresh water once you’re home. This helps keep the cotton soft and stops salt from sitting in the fabric or around the clasp. We've found that hand-washing in cold water works best, and is worth making a habit of to keep the metal clasps from corroding.
Hand-Wash When It Needs a Freshen Up
If your lid is looking a little worse for wear (we're talking sweat marks, dirt or salt stains) a gentle hand-wash should bring it back to life. Use cold water with a light detergent or mild soap. Avoid excess rubbing and don’t get too rough with it. Gently does it.
Never put your Fish Lid in the dryer
This is a fast-track way to end up with a mini-me cap, caused by dryer shrinkage. In warm or tropical climates, keep your lid hung up or stored in a dry, shaded place when you’re not wearing it. Try not to leave it sitting in full sun for long periods (especially on the dash of your car) as this can cause the colour to fade faster.
A little care goes a long way
Your Fish Lid is made for salty adventures, but it still needs a rinse, a wash and a proper dry every now and then.
