This lightweight cotton hat is designed to fade and soften into an old favourite. It features a recycled plastic brim, adjustable back strap and a hand-drawn embroidery design, all wrapped up in a classic unisex six-panel style.

The Spanish Mackerel (Scomberomorus commerson) is one of northern Australia's most iconic predatory fish. You may have seen them in the water, shimmering on the edge of a drop off, and you've most definitely seen them on the board of your local fisho. Add the Spanish Mackerel Lid to your cap collection - your noggin will thank you for it.

  • Unisex washed cotton hat
  • Six panel cap design
  • Adjustable back strap
  • Pallion Point exclusive design
  • Recycled plastic brim

All of our lids are Standard size unless otherwise stated. Standard-sized lids are designed to fit most people, with a comfortable shallow fit for heads up to 59cm. Please note, there may be a very slight difference in sizing between different designs. All lids come with an adjustable strap, so you can always find your perfect fit.

Pallion Point lids are made of pre-washed soft cotton and are pretty resilient little noggin' toppers. By following these simple care tips, your lids should survive your salty adventures for years to come.

  • Rinse your lids with fresh water after every ocean outing to keep them soft and avoid the clasp corroding. Hand-washing in cold water works best.
  • If they're looking worse for wear (we're talking sweat marks, dirt or salt stains) a gentle hand-wash with light detergent or mild soap should get them looking fresh again. Use cold water and avoid excess rubbing - gently does it.
  • Never put your fish lid in the dryer, or you'll end up with a mini-me cap. Always air dry in the shade after washing.
  • In warm or tropical climates, keep your lid hung up or stored in a dry, shaded place. Keeping it in the sun (eg. on the dash of your car) can cause your lid to fade and shrink.

Please note that if you expose your lid to salt water, the hardware (metal bits) will start to corrode if you don't rinse them. While we will always replace faulty product, we won't be replacing lids that haven't been loved... rinse your lids, kids.

Home of the Fish Lid

Born in Airlie Beach, Pallion Point started with a simple idea - to create a unisex cap inspired by the lifestyle we grew up around. Weekends on and around the water, from reef trips and beach barbecues to long winter days spent exploring the islands. Our unique fish lid designs are hand-drawn by Pallion Point founder Ashleigh, and feature the marine species that Aussies know and love. These designs are intricately embroidered and paired with washed-cotton to create the humble Fish Lid; a staple for every saltwater enthusiast.

Frequently Asked Questions

Fish Lids are our take on the classic dad cap - a relaxed, everyday hat featuring embroidered marine species and inspired by life around the ocean. Designed in Airlie Beach in the Whitsundays, Fish Lids are supposed to feel fun, classic, and easy to throw on whether you're heading out on the boat, down to the beach, or just grabbing a coffee.

All of our lids are Standard size unless otherwise stated. Standard-sized lids are designed to fit most people, with a comfortable shallow fit for heads up to 59cm. All lids come with an adjustable strap, so you can always find your perfect fit.

No - the fish are embroidered rather than printed, so they hold their detail and shape much better over time with regular wear.

They’re designed for life around the water, not under it. So although they can handle an occasional drenching, rinsing with fresh water after salt exposure will help keep your lid in good condition.

They’re a relaxed dad cap with a soft, unstructured feel. Easy to wear, slightly worn-in from the start, and designed to feel comfortable straight away rather than stiff or overly structured.

Right here - Pallion Point is the original home of the Fish Lid. Every design starts in-house in Airlie Beach, with our founder Ashleigh hand-illustrating each fish before it becomes part of the collection. We also have a growing range of stockists around Australia that carry Fish Lids in-store. If the lid you’re chasing happens to be sold out online, there’s always a chance one of our stockists might still have it hanging on the shelf somewhere. Could be the perfect excuse for a road-trip...

Although we gifted the purple lobster lid we do have 4 others which we’ve been loving! Dad originally said no to wanting one but it’s now on his birthday list so another one coming our way soon! Really high quality. Our kids lost them into the ocean multiple times while at the beach/fishing but they’ve held up so well. Highly recommend.

Customer photo review of Kingfish Lid

I have my own lid that I absoloutely love but I wanted to get a special gift whilst visiting a group of friends overseas. Every couple of years we reunite and buy a group gift. This year our friend and host bought matching robes for the new hot tub and I came with the fish lids. Everyone loved the washed look and the unique fish from Australia. Even the adult size lids for the kids fit cinched up with the adjustable strap at the back. I am normally a 61cm head and have trouble with ball caps and these fit fine. Can’t wait to see each new design and colour - thank you for a great Aussie gift!
